Thanks for the report. Could you try the PPA of qtiplot from here:
https://launchpad.net/~showard314/+archive/ppa

And see if you can recreate the bug?

Thanks for testing! We need the new version of qtiplot in order to fix this bug, but the release team is hesitant to grant a freeze exception since qtiplot includes statically linked libraries with its package and we are too close to Karmic's release freeze (two days) to properly fix it and test it. For now, please use the version in the PPA as a work around.

See bug #374543.

I have this bug as well. I cannot plot anything, Qtiplot crashes. Absolutelly critical bug
for qtiplot.

Please, release team, allow the package to be updated. This is an essential package
for many users in our institute and it will be extremelly painful to use non-standard
distribution packages.

If the release team does not open an exception, as they seem they won't,
this bug will be fixed on the current package? Otherwise we will have a totally
broken qtiplot package for the next 18 months in karmic....

I'm not around to work on this bug, but I think it is really really
important (obviously). If you could find the exact upstream commit
that fixed this bug, we could try to get an SRU update of this bug in
Karmic, That's probably the best course of action since it would fix
the bug and minimize any bad side effects.

We just accepted an updated qtiplot into karmic-proposed, the package is available in a few hours. Please test and give feedback at bug 471238 if it fixes your problem. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Thank you in advance! (you may have to remove the qtiplot you installed from the ppa first and remove the ppa from your sources list before installing the new version from -proposed)

I'll try to but was it that necessary to disable Python support? Is
there already a bug report for it? QtiPlot without Python is half less
interesting.

Lack of Python support is a known bug in this version:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/qtiplot/+bug/435918
http://developer.berlios.de/bugs/?func=detailbug&bug_id=16303&group_id=6626

This was reported and fixed in a later version:
http://svn.berlios.de/wsvn/qtiplot/trunk/qtiplot/?rev=1385&sc=1

However, with the updated libraries and an old version of qtiplot, it
is impossible to even compile qtiplot with python support without
major hacking at the source code. Feel free to continue to use the
version in the PPA, however. That is an updated version.

Thank you! We appreciate your help in testing this. I've been nudging
the Debian maintainer to package the new qtiplot in debian so we can
get it into Ubuntu ASAP, for now we're left with the only option of
patching what we can with what we have.
