Perhaps it is worth mentioning that I had two instances and this happened after I clicked the menu item for hiding in the system tray.

Something has spawned not one but two Qt4 threads from VLC's back. This does not happen upstream. I have no clue what Ubuntu is changing that makes this happen...??

Does it still crash if you transcode from the command line with the Qt4 UI?
