Karmic A-6 Desktop freezes

Bug Description

This is actually a continuation of bug #416660 filed for Alpha 5.

Performing almost any action in a graphical window will cause the desktop to freeze. Occasionally the mouse will remain active as far as cursor movement is concerned, but never (after the freeze) has any button press/click effect. The main difference I have noticed from Alpha 5 to 6 is that in Alpha 5 the terminal almost always worked properly but now has the same lock up problems as other windows. The lockups also seem to happen sooner (in less time) in Alpha 6. In other words there seems to have been a regression.

i think i have the same problem but then with ubuntu 9.04...
even if i wait a little at the login screen (the black thing to enter username)
it still freezes... keyboard is unresponsive... (it doesn't flicker like it used to when my cpu got to hot...) mouse still works for a while... but then it stops aswell...

i think this happend after some updates a while back...
cause i don't think i installed anything in the meantime...
least not something that should be launched that early...

then again it might just be that my computer is crappy :(

i think the problem, (don't know if its the same as the original poster), might be caused due to the nvidea drivers... cause out of desperation i did a fresh install..
and i did a restart after i added these drivers and the problem immediately started to occur again...
and by using some kinda safe boot/recovery, it somehow disabled the driver and the problem was gone...

however, no compiz effects for the time being,

since i have autoupdate security installs..
and pretty much always blindly click yes yes yes, to every upgrade pruposed to me, i dont know if these or anything related is changed recently that might explain the sudden appearance of this bug...

and the fresh install caused my VPN's to stop working... some kinda weird no valid key error thingy...
