Bug Description

Binary package hint: gcalctool

gcalctool (at least the version 5.26.0 that comes with Jaunty) has no "x^y" button when the view is switched to "programming". In scientific mode such a button exists and works fine. I am a programmer myself and i do "x to the power of y" calculations quite often and i need the different numeral systems (bin, oct, dec, hex) as well, so i cannot use the scientific view.

ProblemType: Bug
Architecture: amd64
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.04
ExecutablePath: /usr/bin/gcalctool
Package: gcalctool 5.26.0-0ubuntu1
ProcEnviron:
 LANG=en_GB.UTF-8
 SHELL=/bin/bash
SourcePackage: gcalctool
Uname: Linux 2.6.28-11-generic x86_64

You can still access this function by typing '^'. Are you saying it needs a button so it can be accessed by the mouse?

Yes, a clickable button is missing. Typing "^" does not work, at least not for me. I use the german default keyboard layout and need to press the circumflex button twice to get a single "^" sign printed (that works in all other applications). Pressing this button once, twice or even more in gcalctool does not print any ^ sign so i cannot access this function with my keyboard either which means i have to switch to the scientific view to get a button that i can click with my mouse. Another workaround is to copy a single ^ sign to the clipboard and then paste it into gcalctool using the Ctrl+v shortcut.

So, would the best solution be to fix the '^' key for German keyboards? I've tested it here and fixed that problem.

No, the keyboard fix is a different thing. In my opinion a clickable button should be there anyway. Such a button exists in the "scientific" view although one could use the keyboard there as well.
