Bug Description

I'm getting nothing but a black screen using the ATI driver. It was like that out-of-the-box two months ago with a clean install of a daily cd, had go to recovery console and install fglrx to get a working X server, the problem persists, when I tried it today with a fully updated dapper, by changing fglrx to ati in xorg.conf, black screen, no fatal errors in Xorg.0.log.

ATI Radeon 9600XT 128MB.

The reason for the switch to ATI was to hopefully get the pivot (screen flip, RandR extension) functionality.

If anything more is needed I'll be happy to provide it.

Also bug #42816 seems similar to this one. It is the same behaviour but on different hardware (ATI MOBILITY RADEON X700 there).

I've just realised I'm using a dual-link DVI cable. The OSS ATI driver does not support it, thus the black screen appears.
