Bug Description

Binary package hint: kdenetwork

**Manual report since ubuntu-bug didn't open a new window on my browser [no error codes].**

Kopete disconnects frequently with: "MSN: Error: Error code: 800 (Unknown error code)"

Identi.ca "thread" @ http://identi.ca/conversation/9424552 discusses that upgrading to libmsn-beta8 solves the problem.

Cleaning ~/.kde/share/apps/konversation solved nothing.

WORKAROUND: login as "Invisible", wait and switch to Online. That'll get you 10 or so minutes without the error, which will happen sooner or later.

I'm the Debian maintainer of this package. I'm working on packaging beta8. It will be available in Debian Unstable in a few days.

Since Karmic is already frozen, I guess it won't be on time. It will also be available in my PPA ( http://launchpad.net/~pgquiles/+archive/ppa ) for Hardy, Jaunty and Karmic in a few days.

Where can I get a deb package for Karmic Koala?

Pau Garcia Quiles (pgquiles) wrote :

There are no public packages of beta8 for Debian or any version of Ubuntu yet. Packages are ready in my computer but there is an issue but I am trying to work out with upstream (problem is libmsn 4.0 >= beta7 breaks binary compatibility but upstream did not bump soname; upstream acknowledges the problem exists but has done nothing to fix it).

I assume you haven't been able to fix the problem and thus the state this bug should be is as "won't fix" ? (been peeking your PPA, no libmsn there)

This bug is fixed in libmsn 4.1, which is packaged (it has been for months) but it's not yet uploaded to the Debian archive, therefore it has not transitioned to Ubuntu. Why libmsn 4.1 is not uploaded yet? Because it breaks ABI compatibility and we are waiting for the right moment to do that in Debian.

Should kopete be rebuilt for the soname change so we can get rid of the libmsn0.2 packages?

Pau Garcia Quiles (pgquiles) wrote :

@Jamie: yes, it should. Rebuilding Kopete against libmsn 4.1 is the whole point of uploading libmsn 4.1 this late in the release cycle.
