Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

I am using the xorg-edgers PPA with radeon DRM. In any editable text field (such as this one) the type is illegible. Symptom can easily be seen in gnome-terminal, where typing results in fields of gibberish. Redrawing the screen or window -- for instance with alt-tab or a virtual desktop switch -- will correct the problem temporarily.

Regrettably apport-collect crashed on this bug. If you need further information please do ask me.

Hi jwbaker,

Thanks for including an image to demonstrate the issue. Could you also please attach the output of `lspci -vvnn` and `dmesg`, and attach your /var/log/Xorg.0.log or Xorg.0.log.old file from after reproducing this issue. If you've using a custom /etc/X11/xorg.conf please attach that as well.

[This is an automated message. Apologies if it has reached you inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

Hi Jeffrey,

This bug was reported against an earlier version of Ubuntu, can you
test if it still occurs on Lucid?

Please note we also provide technical support for older versions of
Ubuntu, but not in the bug tracker. Instead, to raise the issue through

If by chance you can no longer reproduce the issue on Lucid or if you
feel it is no longer relevant, please mark the bug report 'Fix Released'
or 'Invalid' as appropriate, at the following URL:

Since the hardware is no longer available for doing troubleshooting with, we'll have to close the bug for now. However please feel free to reopen if you or anyone else has the same HW and can reproduce this issue using the latest development version of Ubuntu and is willing to do some troubleshooting with it.
