free space is not checked on forehand

If your free space is filled when it makes a snapshot it just tries to continues creating major errors. It will be unable to rename the new-snapshot folder, and it even won't do the available space smart remove option leaving your disk without any free space.

Thinking about it, this is actually a rsync bug. rsync just continues also when there is no space left any longer...

How do you know the free space needed before hand? Wont that depend on the amount of "new" files since hardlinking is used for existing files?

That is true, and a problem. Still I am a bit troubled that rsync just
continues, also when the space is filled. It also will not give any error
message at all...

Well even if rsync continues in the end it will be an uncompleted snapshot. BIT should detect this.
