Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox-3.5

I occasionally see this crash bug when closing tabs in Firefox 3.5 that contain Adobe Reader 8 documents. If I restart Firefox, restore the session, and close the tab again, then the crash happens again.

Thank you for reporting this to Ubuntu. It seems that you are using an old version of Adobe Reader. Could you please try installing acroread from the partner repo and let us know if you have the same problems?

Thank you for the update. Are you on Jaunty or Karmic? According to the report it seems like you are on Jaunty, but you keep mentioning and seem to install stuff from Karmic.

Technically I'm on Jaunty, but I have the Karmic repos enabled too and I have a bunch of packages installed from there for testing. I am using apt_preferences(5) to keep the rest of the system from updating to Karmic. FF 3.5 is installed from Karmic, hence I put [Karmic] in the bug title. IIRC, the bug occurred with the Jaunty version too though. See below for details.

$ cat /etc/apt/preferences
# Set Karmic packages to priority 400. Normally installed packages will have
# priority of 100 and Jaunty packages will have priority of 500, so if the
# installed package is from Jaunty then it will have priority 500 and will not
# update, and if it is not because I forcibly installed it from karmic then
# it will have priority 100 and will update with new Karmic versions.

Support for both Jaunty and Karmic has ended. If this is still occurring on Ubuntu 11.10 "Oneiric Ocelot" please file a new bug, preferably also including the results of testing on Ubuntu 12.04 "Precise Pangolin" alpha 2.
