Bug Description

Binary package hint: bluez-gnome

$ lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu karmic (development branch)
Release: 9.10

$ apt-cache policy bluez-gnome
bluez-gnome:
  Installed: (none)
  Candidate: 1.8-1ubuntu1
  Version table:
     1.8-1ubuntu1 0
        500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com karmic/universe Packages

bluetooth should detect adapter status correctly, wifi toggling should not freeze the system.

Steps to reproduce:
With bluetooth enabled, disable, adapter goes down, status icon shows x, says disabled. OK
With bluetooth disabled, enable using gui, adapter goes up, status icon still shows x, says unkown. NOT OK
While in "unknown" but functional status, use fn-f2 "rfkill" hotkey. OK
full system freeze, blank screen, only cursor shows, alt REISUB does nothing, only holding power. NOT OK

bluetooth status when adapter is re-enabled is borked.

toggling rfkill while adapter is in borked state halts the system.

please advise how to assist.

gnome-bluetooth will replace bluez-gnome starting in karmic, could you try with gnome-bluetooth 2.27.9 or later once it is published in karmic, and confirm if this is fixed?

apt-cache policy indicates I already have gnome-bluetooth, and that it is
the newest version. Hitting about on the bluetooth properties screen gives
me the matching version number as the gnome-bluetooth package, so I must
have assigned this bug incorrectly to bluez-gnome, can you please move it to
gnome-bluetooth?

I've reproduced this bug on Eee 901, and Eee 1000H, both have i945gme, and rt2860 wifi.

The steps listed in the bug reproduce the freeze 100% of the time.

The freeze will also occur when toggling wifi without prior bluetooth toggling as well, but I cannot nail down 100% reproduction in this scenario.

Also, the actual hardware toggle of the wifi happens; when the system is restarted after the freeze, wifi is indeed disabled.

Same here on an 1000h. Bluetooth is switched off through BIOS, the bug happens in about 50% of the toggleing events.
The system completely freezes, even restarting the XServer with [alt][print][k] is not possible.

I think it will be fixed with the update of the Rt2x00 driver in the .32 kernel. But the -rc3 i running quite bad on my 1000h so I have not tested that yet. With Intel 5300 and 3945 ABG wifi cards there is no problem.

I tried with .32-rc7 from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/ but it looks like something is missing as wifi interface won't show up (missing module ?).

Hi El,

If you could also please test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.
