synchronization happens each time I check off a task

Bug Description

I'm syncing tasks with RTM that repeat each day (on Astrid it says "repeats on remote server"). Each time I check off a task in Astrid, it runs the synchronization tool, and then updates the repeating task on Astrid. In practice this means it takes me 30 seconds each time I want to check off a task in Astrid. Could you please make these synchronizations happen only in the background?

Thanks!

I think 2.8??
I'll upgrade to 2.9

Also, sorry for a side question, but I'd like Astrid to stop bugging me
about tasks unless I specifically set reminders for the task. I have all the
reminders turned off for most events, but it still pops up a notification
every few days. Is there a time delay between turning off notifications and
having them stop? Should I uninstall and then restore data from RTM?

Thanks,
Atisha

Tim,Can you respond to this? I think the answer is that all the
notifications should be turned off and astrid should stop bothering them but
I am not sure.

Hi there,

The second problem I'd mentioned (that I kept getting notified of tasks even after i'd turned off notifications) settled down after a few days. It seems like it had stored up notifications and just needed to get the notifications "out of it's system".

The other issue, where tasks set to repeat daily are synchronizing each time I check them off is still happening. This makes Astrid quite slow on these tasks.

Thanks, atisha

So the deal with "Repeats on the remote server" tasks are that they synchronize with RTM immediately so users can see the new task when they complete the old one. I'm not exactly sure why I decided to pop up a dialog box instead of doing it in the background except that I guess users might be confused if they expected their task to repeat but don't see the new one come in right away.

This could be a configurable option, but I'm loathe to make yet another setting! =P I'm going to defer this for a little while I think about synchronization in Astrid 3.0.

Changed in astrid:
status: New → Confirmed
milestone: none → 3.0.alpha-1
importance: Undecided → Low
