0.47pre1 graphic tablet works only partionally

The bug is similiar to https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/403421 but (litarally) the same.

I'm trying Inkscape 0.47pre1 with different Vista32 and XP32 configurations.

I have trouble using my (brandnew) graphic tablet. A Trust Slimline Design Tablet TB-6300. It works fine with all other tested applications like Corel DRAW and PAINT 10, 12 and 13, Photo Impact 11 and 12, Fireworks 4 and CS3 etc.

I'm sure it will work with all Windows-type desktop programs except Inkscape! Here are all menues, buttons and so on usable but if it comes to work with the tools in a document nothing happens. What a great success ...

Inkscape is a graphic / illustration tool, isn't it? Or is it a proof-of-concept-wannabee-lookalike of the programs above tested succesfully?

And no, I'm no hobbiest. In fact I'm an IT pro and teacher (even for Linux). I work with different plattforms, users, customers at all time with Windows, MacOSX and Linux.

Be aware: Vector or illustration programs are key-applications to any modern workstations. OO Draw is usable but nothing in comparison to Illustrator, Fireworks, CorelDRAW, Deneba Canvas etc.

Inkscape is the only overall-available(!), and OpenSource, illustration software in the whole wide world! DON'T RUIN IT'S CREDITS.

Bug reports like this are not constructive. Adding insults and rude comments is counterproductive and, quite honestly, makes developers apathetic towards any issues you experience.

That said, this issue is probably an issue with GTK as opposed to Inkscape (as this is common for Inkscape, GIMP, and other GTK based software on Windows). There aren't many GTK developers who work on the Windows port. There are even fewer who have access to drawing tablets.

Since it seems like you have tried a lot of software, please try the development version of GIMP which utilizes the most recent version of GTK. If the tablet works, chances are that us updating the libraries will make your tablet work in Inkscape too. Also, make sure that in GIMP you go into the preferences and ensure that your tablet it properly configured in the input devices. Here is the download link: http://bit.ly/1aeMIH

My tablet works fine in the latest build of the GIMP.

It worked just fine in the 0.46 build of Inkscape.

TIP: go to 'bugs', search for "tablet", count up to a dozen bugs filed about this issue since April '09.

thnx for answering.

In between I helped myself with a sort-of workaround: I don't install
the Trust Tablet driver and use the built in driver (of Win7 under
Win7) instead, after I realised, that the tablet has similar problems
with gimp.

Curious: The former problem with Inkscape dissappeared under Win7 with
Inkscape 0.47-3.

Too bad that the sensitivity of the tablet is now gone (works just
like a mouse) and there is no way of adapting to different screens
(4:3, 16:10 etc.) but it works.

If this is worth mentioning, feel free to post it.
