I get this error:

"This email already belongs to somebody else."

When trying to change any of my preferences using https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UserPreferences after signing in with my Launchpad account.

Reopening as new.

I think this is actually a data issue, not a bug in code. Over the last year, Launchpad removed identity management. Login, passwords, and email addresses are really managed by login.ubuntu.com. Ubuntu's login service provides the authentication to the wiki's mentioned in the bug comments. There may be a mismatch between the Ubuntu's data and the historic data in the wikis.

affects: launchpad-help-moin-theme → canonical-identity-provider

This bug is really anoying and prevents changing any preferences! Is there a way to work around it or manually reset affected accounts?

For me this was resolved, when I filed a ticket with canonical 's launchpad ticketing system.
It was resolved by them, when they fixed my primairy email address, which had changed.
For me this issue is resolved.

The bug is not!
When people add a new email address, and wish to set it as their new primairy some thing(s) still points to the old primairy email address.

But where do I find that ticketing system?

This bug affects me too! Where can I open a ticket to Canonical to fix it? Thanks!

canonical-sysadmins, can you fix the user data for the people affected by this bug and its linked questions? (or do they need individual tickets first?)

I have the problem as well, how to proceed?

The admins tell me they want to handle this on an individual basis. So, here's how:

Open a ticket by emailing <email address hidden> and include the following details:

 - The URL of the site you are trying to use. (for example, https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UserPreferences )
 - Your username at that site.
 - The email address you use for login with login.launchpad.net or login.ubuntu.com.

Please include your username and "This email already belongs to someone else" in the message subject, to help identify the issue at a glance.

Also, it would be helpful if you could update this bug with a "fixed for me" message after you get the issue resolved for your account.

I don't know how it happend because I haven't send a message to the admins yet but this issue has been solved for me today. At least I can see the new template after login now.

I think it has been long enough. As far as I can tell, there is no one left who cares and is still affected. If anyone still has this issue though, they can follow the instructions above.
