playbin also produces video but no sound. It also provides the following
error message:

** Message: don't know how to handle audio/mpeg, mpegversion=(int)4,
framed=(boolean)true, codec_data=(buffer)1210, rate=(int)44100, channels=(int)2

I couldn't get rhythmbox to recognize the file as playable.

Removing the ubuntu-unr tag since it does not seem to be specific to UNR. If you feel that this bug is specific to UNR, please feel free to re-add the tag and leave a comment explaining why. Thanks!

I'm getting the same symptoms under a 64bit virtualbox.

Totem can play an MP3 with sound, but not an MP4 file's sound.
Video from the MP4 file works fine. The MP4 file works with sound and video on 9.04.

The file can be downloaded here:
http://tcs.java.no/tcs/

Running totem from the command line gives:

nikolaj@nikolaj-desktop:~$ totem Desktop/State\,\ Your\'e\ Doing\ It\ Wrong\ \ Exploring\ Alternative\ Con.mp4

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. A new version of GStreamer is available in both Lucid and Maverick and we are wondering if this is still reproducible in any of those versions, May you please test and give us of feedback about it? Thanks in advance.
