Bug Description

Binary package hint: virt-manager

When firing up virt-manager from the karmic packages I get a permission denied error when trying to write the .img in /var/lib/whatever because I'm in the wrong group.

From a discussion with Kirkland/Soren it seems to make sense that anyone in the admin group should be in the libvirtd group by default.

I can add this, however, it should be noted that the adding of admin users to the libvirtd group will only occur on libvirt package installation.

ie, if you add an admin user later, you will need to also add that user to libvirtd.

This bug was fixed in the package libvirt - 0.7.0-1ubuntu4

---------------
libvirt (0.7.0-1ubuntu4) karmic; urgency=low

  * debian/libvirt-bin.postinst: add each admin user to libvirtd,
    LP: #410226; note that this is only a partial fix, as admin users
    added after libvirt's install will need to be individually added
    to libvirtd; however, this should fix a huge number of
    single-admin-user-in-default-Ubuntu-system annoyances
  * debian/control: bump standards version

I've just installed karmic and was unable to connect to it in virt-manager because the user I created during instalation wasn't added to the libvirtd group. I've chosen that virtualisation host packages should be installed as a part of the install process. Could that be the reason?

@karaluh - yes, I suspect your user had not yet been added to group 'admin' when libvirtd's postinst added admin users to group libvirtd.
