Indicator applet does not change the icon for new messages

Right now, when receiving new messages, the indicator applet does not show the "green dot" to grab the attention from the user.

I am still getting problems with this - the icon does not show when new messages have arrived.

I don't know which messages people here are talking about (instant or e-mail), but messages from Empathy do enable a green mark on the tray icon - but new e-mail messages (checked by gm-notify) are not causing a green mark on the icon.

New messages dont show this illustrious green dot. (I have never seen the dot to this date)
I do not use Evolution, however I do use gWibber and Empathy and neither of those show the dot.

Doesn't indicate new messages form Pidgin, gm-notify and Evolution.
Tested on Karmic.

The notification area does not use color. Color red is used only for warnings.
The new icons changes according to the events , as in the screenshot.

@mac_v: Oh I see the icon is changing for pidgin but it's barely noticable. It should blink or be more noticable.
