Bug Description

After a recent update in Karmic, all video (as in movies played via, for example, totem) is tinted blue. I modified '/system/gstreamer/0.10/default/videosink' to 'videobalance hue=-1 ! autovideosink' which corrected the issue.

thank you for your bug report, what video driver do you use? did you upgrade some xorg packages before getting the issue or only gstreamer?

I use the nvidia graphics driver (nvidia-glx-180).

I had updates for both xorg packages and gstreamer around the time this started.

Does it only happen in gstreamer based applications or in others too?
Try playing a movie
in totem first and if you can reproduce it in mplayer later.
If so it's probably a duplicate of bug 395476 (I remember having this
issue few months
ago but I can't reproduce it now).

Looking in nvidia-settings, HUE is set to 0 so I doubt its bug 395476.

I'm experiencing the same problem.
To specify further, video backed by xine (like kaffeine DVB) don't experience the problem immediately. When gstreamer backed video (Totem) is started, all of it flips (both xine and gestreamer backed playback). Odd thing is, simply starting the nvidia-settings app solves the problem, until a new gstreamer backed video is started.

Indeed, when using the hue parameter for XVideo in de nvidia-settings, the effect can be replicated by putting it to + or - 1000. When the nvidia-settings app is allready running, changing the hue and putting it backt to 0 brings everything back to normal.

I'm running a Karmic AMD64 as well.

Hey!

Just letting you know I have discovered another work-around that doesn't require you to manually set the hue every time you open a video

To implement the workaround, do the following:

   1. Open gstreamer-properties (alt+f2, enter gstreamer-properties)
   2. Change to the video tab
   3. Change the default output plugin to "custom"
   4. Place the following command in the bottom box: videobalance hue=-1 ! autovideosink
   5. Close the box and enjoy your now correct colour

If this doesn't work just try to change plugin by combobox and test if it works (by opening a video file)!

Thanks for the tip.

Trying some things with gstreamer-properties I found that putting the default video output to "X Window System (No Xv)" also solves the problem.

Yeah, I too had this issue and switched the default output to "X Window System (No Xv)" and it's working fine.

the recent comments indicate an issue in the driver xv code rather than in gstreamer

Once this bug has occurred other video players are tinted blue, eg. VLC Media Player. After a reboot the video will play fine in VLC but as soon as any videos are launched with Totem/GStreamer the problem returns (for all videos/progs). Eg. Skype video is affected. Flash Player doesn't seem to be affected..

I confirm this bug, using nvidia driver. kgokbulut's fix works perfectly (without reboot.) The bug might be in xv code, but only gstreamer seems to trigger it.

This problem started for me immediately after upgrading from Jaunty 64 bit to Karmic.

A workaround is to set gstreamer-properties to use X Window System (No Xv) in the Video tab.

Switching between "auto detect" and "X Window System (No Xv)" and pushing the Test button replicates the problem without fail.

I am using the nVidia driver that comes with Karmic.

gstreamer seams to trigger the hue to be set to -1000 in the nvidia-settings
