Removing gnome-power-manager stops this crash from occurring when logging into the session. After removing gnome-power-manager, xfce4-power-manager does activate and dim my monitor per the preferences set in 'Xfce4 Power Manager' settings.

I received a notification of the crash when I logged in but I think it actually occurred when I last logged out as theres been no segfaults since on my system since boot and xfce4-power-manager is still running.

I do not have gnome-power-manager installed.

According to upstream developer, this is fixed in xfce4-power-manager 0.8.3. This bug report and all dups indeed refer to xf-p-m 0.8.2. If this issue is still reproducible with xf-p-m 0.8.3 (can't reproduce here), please reopen this bug report. Thanks.

Mmh, weird, your apport data seem to have vanished, probably because apport marked your report as a duplicate of this one. Anyway, this is still the same bug, thanks, I'll inform upstream.

Which installer? (gdebi?)
Anyway, you can download them in a directory, and run "sudo dpkg -i xfce4-power-manager*deb" in that directory to install them.

Yes--gdebi. I used your dpkg command and they installed fine. I will report if the crash happens again. Is there anything else I can do to help?

Nope, just use your system (the same way you did when it crashed ;).

I have been having this problem too, and like other posters the bug has persisted to 0.8.3.1-1. So now I'm trying the packages from Lionel's PPA (0.8.3.1-1ubuntu1~test2). I'll keep an eye open for more crashes...

I got an error window when the desktop loaded on the live CD of 10.04
alpha2, but the install went alright. The error reappeared when I
rebooted onto the installed desktop, but after the first lot of updates
everything has been fine. This was the 64 bit version of Xubuntu.
Hardware is ASRock mobo, socket AM3,with Phenom II X3, now using a
Nvidia 8400GS graphics and Cmedia soundcard.
I didn't report the original error because there wasn't a link and
error report in the error window.
