[needs-packaging] chef, chef-server, chef-server-slice

I would like to get Chef packaged and included in Karmic's release, under Universe. This includes the RubyGems chef, chef-server and chef-server-slice, provided by Opscode.

Notes: We're working with Bryan McLellan (launchpad id btm) on getting Chef and all the various dependencies (primarily a number of RubyGems). We're also tracking this on our open source ticketing system:

Bryan and I will be responsible for packaging everything we'll need that isn't already in Debian and Ubuntu - he has gotten a number of packages created and added, and in both distributions. We're currently working with Ubuntu developer, Mathias Gug on this task.

Chef will require that Merb and Syntax (libsyntax-ruby) are packaged as well:

Chef, as of version 0.7.8 no longer requires libsyntax-ruby, the dependency has been changed to libcoderay-ruby (coderay).
