Bug Description
My external hdd is not always plugged into its usb port - so Deja Dup's backup destination is missing.DD should ask for it and wait for the user to plug it in or the backup should be canceled by clicking a button.
Because right now DD just shows an error message and cancels the automatic backup itself.

Agreed. There was a meta-bug for removable-drive issues in bug 320008, but I'll track the progress of your suggestions here.
