Bug Description

Open Movie Editor is VERY, VERY slow. After I load a MPG file, it slows down my whole laptop, until I manage to close it - after a while of clicking on a menu or button and wait for anything to happen. It is totally unusable.

I am running on Kubuntu 9.04 and it is Open Movie Editor version 0.0.20080102.

I have a laptop with a Centrino CPU and a ATI Mobile X300 Graphics card.

Hi,

Does it happen only with mpeg files or with all videos (also avi's)?

Can you also provide the result of the command
apt-cache policy openmovieeditor ?

Thanks,
Fabrice

I removed Open Movie Editor after I struggled with it, so I had to install it again. But this time it does not open at all. I clicked on the icon, the application appeared on the task bar, but no application window opens. After a few seconds it disappear from the task bar also.

Hi,

Can you try running it from the command line, and send back the output?
Also, you could try with the version in my ppa (https://launchpad.net/~fabricesp/+archive/ppa)?

Thanks,
Fabrice

Sorry I took so long for a reply. I did not have time these past few months to play around with movie editing.
I converted from Kubuntu 9.04 (KDE) to Ubuntu 9.04 (Gnome) in the meanwhile - duel boot. I installed Open Movie Editor again, but still it did not want to open. I followed your suggestion to try your PPA and it updated my version of Open Movie Editor, as well as a few other media files. Unfortunately, it still does not work. I select it from the Applications menu, but nothing happens. Below is he message I get when I try to run it from command line:

marius@LinuxMG:~$ openmovieeditor

I upgraded to Ubuntu 9.10 with a clean installation. I tried OpenMovieEditor again. This time it opens, but it is still VERY, VERY slow in playing back a MPG file. It takes a long before it starts to play, and when it does, it plays slowly in shutter effect. At least this time it does not freeze up my whole laptop. Also, when I stop the playback, I can now use the "slider", although it is not user friendly enough. I don't know how many frames is skipped as I move it slowly left and right. Even if I click on the "skip frame forward" button, nothing happens.
