Bug Description

Binary package hint: acpi-support

Dear all,

I've installed Ubuntu 9.04 on my Toshiba Satellite M30X (cf. dmidecode attachment). It runs fine if I start with acpi=off (or acpi=ht). If I start with one off {pci=noacpi, acpi=noirq, pnpacpi=off, noapic}, I can switch to the console and work there (at least for 10 minutes - I haven't tried more). If I log in under X11, it freeze after less than a minute. If I'm lucky I can log dmesg, cf. attachment. With freeze I mean, that:
1. no keyboard input works - not even the switch to a console (Ctrl-Alt-F2),
2. no mouse button works,
3. the mouse cursor works only sometimes, but never activates anything anymore,
4. a 'sleep 300 && reboot' does not work anymore, although I've issued it earlier on a console!

This forces on me to choose either X11 without battery- and acpi-control or console-only interface :-(( !

I've attached the uname, lspci, dmidecode, kern.log.0, dmesg, and acpi.tar.gz. If you need more information to track this down, don't hesitate to ask me.

I got the acpi.tar.gz with another boot option - probably pnpacpi=off.

Hi sk,

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 396734

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.

Dear Jeremy,

I'm sorry I cannot test the new Ubunto on the laptop. I've sold it.

Kind regards,
Stefan
