Thank you for reporting this to Ubuntu. Could you please generate an apport crash report for this?
You can enable apport for one instance like this:
sudo force_start=1 /etc/init.d/apport restart

I am marking this invalid as apport will open a new bug when the crash is generated. If it does not, you can reset the status of this one to new and we will try something else.

status: New → Invalid

I'm sorry, apport didn't show up.
I discovered it happens only when selecting /usr/bin/nautilus as the application to use; choosing, for example, gedit, works flawlessly

Could you please try an strace?
strace -eopen firefox-3.5 2>&1 | tee /tmp/strace_ff.log

Please attach the strace after the crash is produced.
Thanks.

I'm not able to reproduce it anymore after upgrade to 3.5.1.
I think this can be closed.

When I have three or four tabs open, I click on the picture and download it to my /home/pictures/ directory. I get one or two pictures and than Firefox crashes, I get a black screen and the computer locks up or, I lose the connection and get kicked back to the desktop.
