Bug Description

I have received an invitation but it does not seem to contain any method for signing up to the service, just a link to the plans page on the website.

This is normal behavior for users on the waiting list. Follow the link to the plans page and you will be able to subscribe to one of the plans

mpt: can you suggest anything for the Ubunet people about what text could be added to make signup more intutive, IIRC, this is the second bug report anything this line I've seen go past.

On the plans page, I click either plan and the link is to the /plans page. I'm expecting to enter and email or something. What am I missing?

Which browser are you using? I just checked and they have different links to subscribe to each plan.

John,

I'm using Firefox 3.0.11 and cleared the cache just to make sure. Looking further into the html, href="" on both links.

Steve: can you copy/paste the section (or even better, attach the .html page itself) to this bug report?

Ok, that's worked. Thanks for the help everyone. All a bit confusing.

I don't have enough information to make a good suggestion (what does the e-mail message look like? what does the linked page look like?), but it's pretty obvious that a page shouldn't contain broken links.

Here is what the invitation email says:

You have received a private invitation to Ubuntu One Services.

To get started using this service follow this link https://ubuntuone.com/plans/

Feel free to invite your friends to join. It's simply a matter of sharing a folder with them using their email address.

Since we are in beta, and there will be bugs, your feedback is extremely important.
The team is fixing these issues as well as improving the service every day.

Recently some new users have reported occasional issues with rendering the file view in the web browser interface.
We believe this is related to the spike that usually occurs after we send out a new batch of invitations.
We ask for your patience while we work to improve the infrastructure for all users.

---

Either the instructions in the email need to be more explicit, or the landing page should have some guidance. I did not know that I would be logging in with my launchpad account so I was looking for somewhere to create an account.

The plan links were dead (until I logged) in. Perhaps they should take the user to the signup/login process, as login button does.

It is not a functionality issue, it is a USABILITY issue! There isn't any
expllicit sign-up button on the front page!

Since we are no longer requiring invitations, this bug is a low priority. However, this is something that can be addressed by a web page change or adding back in the text in the email instructing the user to login.

I'm closing this bug because we have two very large call-to-action style graphics on the front page that lead to the plans page, which is where a user would need to go to subscribe.

If you are sure that the users journey through the site is obvious now... I think the original confusion came because I already had a launchpad account and the plans page did not show the orange buttons below each plan description, just the links behind the plan titles. The only other button on the page was the 'Log In' button.

Having been directed to the plans page from an invitation email, I was looking to 'Sign-Up' not 'Log-in'.
