Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox-3.5

http://www.dailymotion.com/openvideodemo doesn't work, asks you to download firefox 3.5

works fine in windows version of firefox.

I'd guess its either because of a lack of support in firefox-3.5 package or perhaps because of user agent issues.

WORKAROUND:
Install the user agent switcher extension and create a "Firefox" user agent.

Thank you for reporting this to Ubuntu. Which version of Firefox 3.5 are you running? My guess would also be a user agent issue.

This is a problem with the User Agent. When I changed it from Shiretoko to Firefox, it worked.

Workaround is to install the user agent switcher extension and create a "Firefox" user agent.

this is a bug of the website. use the contact form to complain to them. they shouldnt use the user agent to test for this feature. the video tag has a good fallback mechanism that doesnt need it. See: http://www.bluishcoder.co.nz/2009/02/fallback-options-for-html5-video.html

Alexander,
it may surely be a bug of the website, but as this other guy reports correctly [1] unfortunately there are many websites that test the user-agent for a correct visualization. I think the best choice for users in order to have a "shiretoko" that "just works" should be to ship a firefox-3.5 with a "sane" user-agent (Firefox/3.5 should be just fine.)
if you think a crusade against dozens of websites is better, i'm fine with that since i can (know how to) change my user-agent, but this surely isn't a good thing for everyday users that get firefox from the repos.

just my two cents

cheers
