Bug Description

Binary package hint: empathy

The "busy" and "away" icons are confusing.

Busy should not be green (green is go, proceed), and should not have a page on top of it (page looks like a message arrived).

Away should not be red and specially not a triangle (red means problem and a red triangle twice as much, in some countries it is standard car equipment for emergency stops). There are other unwanted connotations with red triangles (family planning, the badge used by political prisoners in nazi camps).

Pleas just use the Icons form pidgin. Emapthy in general is pretty ugly.

The icon choice by empathy will stay constant. It's entirely up to Ubuntu and the icon theme they choose that will show in empathy. Marking as wontfix after talks with the empathy devs.

Is this decision marked as wont fix because Ubuntu does not intend to change
the icons that the Empathy dev's choose to less confusing ones? Or is this
marked as wont fix because the Empathy dev's have no desire to change the
icons, whether or not Ubuntu chooses to change the icons in the distro?

Michael, this is because the empathy devs wont change it. The ubuntu devs stick to upstream as much as they can, and something as small as changing the icon theme may not hit their radar anytime in this century. If you would like to we can push this to the icon theme people in ubuntu and wishlist it to see if they will look into it. personal opinion is it will just stay ignored.

Well, even if it just gets ignored, I think that its best to leave a bug
somewhere.

How can I push this issue upstream?

I've linked this bug to the human icon theme set as thats whats _currently_ default in Ubuntu. Now its up to them to decide what to do next.
