Nautilus isn't running with your default session then. What happens if you run "nautilus" from the terminal?

Same here, no problem until the last kernel update.

I'm running Ubuntu 9.10 with kernel "2.6.31-15-generic #50-Ubuntu SMP Tue Nov 10 14:54:29 UTC 2009 i686 GNU/Linux"

Nautilus can't run, and I have no icons or launchers on my desktop.

That's the output when I try to run nautilus the terminal:

Thanks, but the backtrace is missing most debug symbols. Please try to obtain a new backtrace with the following packages installed:

Thanks

could you try if that's still an issue in lucid?

Same issue in Oneiric Ocelot.
In Oneiric when you middle click on a folder in desktop, nautilus crashes. So there are no icons on desktop, no right click menu, ....
But it resolves by running nautilus from the launcher (dash).

The bug is old and Ubuntu changed quite a lot since, there has also been no activity here nor similar reports. Closing since we believe the issue as described is deprecated but feel free to file a new report if you still have problems in recent Ubuntu versions.
