Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

Using Ubuntu Jaunty, specifying a referred web browser via the GNOME Preferred Applications control applet doesn't update the /etc/alternatives/x-www-browser symlink. As a result certain operations within the GUI result in the incorrect browser being used.

If Preferred Applications is the visible and and most accessible mechanism for setting browser references on Ubuntu desktops, then it would be logical to integrate it with the Debian /etc/alternatives mechanism.
