Totem won't play subtitles in this .mkv file. They are there, VLC plays them.

Bug Description

Binary package hint: totem

1080p mkv file with one audio track and one subtitle track. Video and sound play fine, but no subtitles. VLC plays the subtitles, but doesn't have as good of performance as Totem, so I would prefer to be able to use that.

Using xubuntu 9.04, 64 bit. Totem 2.26.1-0ubuntu5

Expected subtitles to play when selected from the menu, and they didn't.

ProblemType: Bug
Architecture: amd64
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.04
ExecutablePath: /usr/bin/totem-gstreamer
NonfreeKernelModules: fglrx
Package: totem-gstreamer 2.26.1-0ubuntu5
ProcEnviron:
 LANG=en_US.UTF-8
 SHELL=/bin/bash
SourcePackage: totem
Uname: Linux 2.6.28-13-generic x86_64

The file is a 1080p movie, 11 gigs in size. I wouldn't be able to attach it here? If there's a way I could extract the subtitle file from the .mkv I could attach that, is that possible/helpful?

The issue is an upstream one and it would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug the to the people writting the software (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME)

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. A new version of totem is available in both Lucid and Maverick and we are wondering if this is still reproducible in any of those versions, May you please test and give us of feedback about it? Thanks in advance.

Using Xubuntu 10.04 and totem 2.30.2-0ubuntu1 installed via synaptic the subtitles for the file I was observing this issue on before play just fine. The new version of the package in Lucid seems to have fixed the issue. I don't currently have a Maverick install, so I can't verify there...

Hope this helps!
