Bug Description

http://webupd8.blogspot.com/2009/06/ubuntu-jaunty-notification-system-for.html

This article provides a script that enables support for Skype. Using Skype's config panel, I added that script as something to be run on any notification, and disabled the regular Skype notifications, providing full integration.
As Skype has some config files in Home and a DBUS Api, I guess it would be possible to enable Notify-OSD as a defaut replacement.

Any thoughts ?

This looks awesome! Is the skype API / dbus integration good enough to
do messaging indicator work too?

I'm not a coder, so no idea if it's easier to modify the config files or to use DBUS

Pierre, this needs to be filed against the Skype-package not notify-osd. Such logic does not belong in the notification-daemon "notify-osd" itself, but the application triggering these notifications.

Changed in notify-osd:
assignee: nobody → Mirco Müller (macslow)
importance: Undecided → Wishlist
status: New → Invalid

I am the developer of this hack.

I need feedback whether this is wanted in Medibuntu, what we can do to support it, and whether it is worth my while working on ways to make this work seamlessly. Ask me for any information you need.

ATM it works with the indicator-applet and notifications.

If there is a way to make it work at the system level (since packages don't play with home user directories), yes, this integration could be nice.

such a pity proprietary software with closed encryption details and source
like skype doesn't enjoy a lot of attention in the free software world that
is coming into existence just now..
