Bug Description

Binary package hint: totem

I have got a problem running video on my computer with every video player I have installed:
-gnome-mplayer 0.9.4 (The program doesn't display anything (black screen) but it can play audio from the video)
-Totem Movie Player 2.26.1 (crashes)
-Mplayer (crashes)

I can play audio files with Mplayer and gnome-mplayer, but if I try to play anything with Totem Movie Player the program just crashes. I have installed:
-GStreamer plugins for mms, wavpack, quicktime, musepack
-GStreamer plugins for aac, xvid, mpeg2, faad
-GStreamer ffmpeg video plugin
-GStreamer Dirac video plugin
but it doesn't help.

I am using Ubuntu 9.0.4 release 9.0.4 .

ProblemType: Bug
Architecture: i386
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.04
ExecutablePath: /usr/bin/totem-gstreamer
Package: totem-gstreamer 2.26.1-0ubuntu5
ProcEnviron:
 LANG=en_US.UTF-8
 SHELL=/bin/bash
SourcePackage: totem
Uname: Linux 2.6.28-11-generic i686

Thanks for the report, could you attach that file to the report or posted it somewhere where we can download it for testing?

Which file do you need?

The funny thing is that even if I try to use visualizaton in Rhythmbox
0.12.0 the program crashes.
Do all these programs use a common program or a library in the system which
is corrupted or not working properly?
Or can be my graphic card the source of my problems? (I use a graphic card
on my motherboard which is not very powerful.)

Fixed!
I have searched over Google a bit and I found a solution.

Run gstreamer properties (you can do this quickly by pressing Alt-F2 and
typing *gstreamer-properties* ) go to video tab and change
the Default Output Plugin setting to "X Window System (No Xv)" .

Found this solution on http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=476419

I'm sorry that I reported it for a bug. I'm completely new to Linux.

the comments suggest that the issue is a video driver one and not a totem bug, you can open a bug on the video driver you are using if you still get the bug
