Bug Description

Startup Applications (gnome-session-properties) doesn't offer a list of installed applications when I click 'Add', and instead I have to guess at the name of the binary or navigate the filesystem.
With a list I would get immediate feedback that I have added the application I want. I get an icon and description automagically.
Lists are used in other places in GNOME, including the 'Open With...' dialog and adding a launcher to the panel.

Thank you for your bug report. The ubuntu team doesn't have the ressources to work on this specific issue but it would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug the to the people writting the software (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME)

The bug is not really an easy fix, there is no gtk widget to have a nice application list right now, nautilus has its own dialog and copying it would mean quite some code duplication, better to wait for GTK to have a such widget

This is a great usability bug, but the fix is too large to be considered a paper cut.

This is a similar request to bug 382280, which has already been sent upstream. Marking this as a duplicate of that one;.
