Bug Description

It would be great if the user could drag an email message from Kmail to Zim, to bookmark that message. Bonus points if the email link remains even if the message is moved to a different folder in Kmail.

Not sure about Kmail, but other email programs I checked did not support a drag-drop format for this. If Kmail does have such a drag-drop format I would be very happy to implement and would even consider migrating to Kmail myself for this ...

Drag and drop works by negotiating a format between two programs. A typical format is to just send a list with urls (this is e.g. what happens when you drag-drop from a file manager into zim). For email the email program would need to support urls that e.g. refer to a unique mail id (bonus points if it can still be found be ID after it moved). Of course the email program also needs to support opening a message based on such an url.

If they would have this and use the standard format (text/url-list) it would work already in zim and you would see the links after drag drop (although they would not necessarily open with the right program).

Maybe you can check Kmail development documentation or contact them to find out of any such protocol is available.

I'm second to email integration but not for drag'n'drop.
For me it could be a thunderbird plugin which copies selected text from the email (or the headers of email message under the cursor) to zim as a new page in a current namespace.
Headers (from/to/subject/date) and link (mesage id and its path) should be added to the page as well.
The same was done for Evernote before and this was very convenient if you want to keep all notes and emails regarding a task or a project in one place.

I was about to create a new wishlist when I saw this one.

I'd like to be able to drag&drop emails from Evolution to zim. Unfortunately, Evolution (as far I can tell) creates a temporary file with a message so zim receives a link to that temporary file. Of course when I try to open this linked file in zim I've got an error.

Ideally _for me_ it would be if zim is able to create attachments with some drag&drop. At the moment I open attachment directory, drop an email there, thus making a copy of a message, and then create a link to the attachment. I'd like to automate this process, if possible.

I too started thinking about an integration between Thunderbird and Zim. The script in https://bugs.launchpad.net/zim/+bug/606069 works fine, but I was also thinking about a Thunderbird plugin.

The plugin might add a "convert to" option which converts a mail to a Zim page. A bit similar to the "convert to event" option, so one can edit the mail text before it is stored in the Notes folder.

A Thunderbird extension that does what you describe would be very
welcome. You might want to look at using the quicknote plugin for Zim
like I do for my Firefox extension (Zim Capture). Benefits: Ensures
valid Zim file and allows editing before saving into notebook.

Here is a Thunderbird extension which looks promising for purposes of this bug:
