Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

After upgrade to Thunderbird 2.0.0.21 when attempting to send a message I get the error:

An error occurred while sending mail. The server responded: authentication required.
Please check the message recipients and try again.

The smtp server settings has "Use name and password" ticked and the correct user name entered. It doesn't ask for the password (the previous version did) when sending a message. I've tried deleting and re-entering smtp settings - no joy.

ProblemType: Bug
Architecture: i386
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.04
Package: firefox-3.0 3.0.10+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.9.04.1
ProcEnviron:
 PATH=(custom, user)
 LANG=en_GB.UTF-8
 SHELL=/bin/bash
SourcePackage: firefox-3.0
Uname: Linux 2.6.28-12-generic i686

I didn't - I just clicked "Report bug" in the wrong window.

Doesn't work. I'm working around this by using sylpheed instead - which works perfectly.

Just installed Thunderbird to try along side Evolution. It's not asking me for my SMTP password. I've tried deleting that SMTP server, creating a new one and making it the new default all to no avail.

I'm running the latest release of Karmic.

Would just like to let you know that I have exactly the same behavior - Thunderbird refuses to recognize the fact that SMTP Authentication method is set to Normal Password.
I have Thunderbird compiled from sources so I don't expect any support:
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9.2.17) Gecko/20110511 Lightning/1.0b3pre Thunderbird/3.1.10
