I can confirm this, since I could create my wireless lan with wpa in the live cd, and as a normal user, I would wonder why this was not possible with the installed system.

This is kind of intentional, although I agree it produces a strange result. We haven't wanted to include network-manager in the default installation because it isn't stable enough for that yet (although it works for some users).

I suspect we may end up either removing network-manager from the live CD, or else maybe asking a question about it in espresso. I'm not quite sure yet.

If you decide to remove network-manager from the Live-CD, there should be a painless way to upgrade an installation (including those from Install-CD's) from old-fashioned networking to network-manager.

This is part of making network-manager supportable, and that way will probably be 'apt-get install network-manager network-manager-gnome'. Furthermore I don't think that's especially relevant to this bug.

We've decided to give up on network-manager in the live seed for Dapper, so this is effectively fixed. (Sorry.)
