Bug Description

I have an Inspiron 2650 with GeForce2 Go graphics. I'm using the nv driver, because the nvidia driver crashes during hibernation.

I'll attach my Xorg.0.log and xorg.conf.

When the screensaver is supposed to power off/suspend/standby the display, it instead produces an almost-white screen. The screen looks white, but viewing it from the side, there's a partial, very dim memory of what it previously displayed. My guess is that the LCD is turned off, but not the backlight.

The easiest way to reproduce this is to run:
   xset dpms force off

I've found the following patch, which seems relevant:
   https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3095
I downloaded the 6.8.2-77 sources (including Debian patches), and it does not seem to be installed.

I do not know how to build the package with the patch applied, but if it's not hard -- tell me, and I can test the patch out. I can also test a version built by someone else.

Thank you for reporting this issue about xserver-xorg-video-nv. Starting
with Lucid, Ubuntu is transitioning to using the -nouveau video driver
by default instead of -nv. The reason for this change is because
upstream development for the -nv driver has been quite slow. We are
quite pleased with the upstream development speed for -nouveau, and hope
this will translate into swifter bug fixes as well.

Because of this, I'm closing this bug report at this time. I'm marking
it wontfix because what you describe is probably a valid issue, but we
do not have further plans to work on it in Ubuntu. If you would still like
to see this issue investigated, I would encourage you to file it
upstream at http://bugs.freedesktop.org/.

Thanks for letting me know. I'm looking forward to seeing if this
functionality works in Lucid.
