Kubuntu 9.04 ships no PPD for DELL 3110cn printer

Kubuntu 9.04 does not have a PPD for the DELL 3110cn.

Linuxprinting.org proposes the 3100cn PPD for the 3110cn but it causes wrong measurements (e.g. 28 mm margin instead of 20 mm, object width of 155 mm instead of 170 mm) and does not provide all options of the 3110cn.

I've attached the original german PPD file of DELL 3110cn from Windows driver.

Till, shouldn't this PPD file be added to the openprinting PostScript Dell package?

I cannot add a single German PPD file to Foomatic, as not very many people understand German. If there are non-English PPDs in Foomatic there are also the appropriate English PPDs. The best would be to somehow get a collection of all PostScript PPDs from Dell. I have looked into downloadable drivers/PPDs from Dell, on http://ftp.us.dell.com/Printer/ (everything with extension .rpm, .tar.gz, .tar.Z, and some .zip). This looks a little chaotic, as for every supported model another engineer has made drivers and PPDs. Here someone would need to find all PostScript printer PPDs and put them together.

Since my bug was reported almost two years ago, wouldn't this bug be a duplicate of *that*? It is currently reported that mine is a duplicate of this bug, which would seem incorrect ;-)

These are all Windows cabinet files, so install the cab extract utility

# sudo apt-get install cabextract

# cabextract Win_x32/PS/English/dl3110cn.pp_

All done, no errors.

Now we can install the Dell 3110cn ppd file via the CUPS web UI.
