Expected to be able to download the files onto the university computer (mac) and then transfer them over to USB in preparation for installation on a PC laptop.

Thank you for your bug report.

What type of problem you have when you try to download the extras? Does your problem concern this help page: https://help.ubuntu.com/9.04/musicvideophotos/C/video-dvd.html? What message you get when you click on the package links?
If you have a problem with downloading package using /usr/share/doc/libdvdread4/install-css.sh script, did you run it as a root (with sudo command)?
Could you provide us with output of command:
sudo /usr/share/doc/libdvdread4/install-css.sh

Thanks.

No problem. I will state once again that my problem is that once I have
followed the directions and everything is installed my DVDs still don't
play.

That is the URL I just sent to you when you asked about the directions I was
following.

One last time I will reiterate that my problem is that I have already done
all the things it says to do on this page:
https://help.ubuntu.com/9.04/musicvideophotos/C/video-dvd.html

When I insert a DVD it starts to play. It gets past the first FBI warning
and to the next copywrite warning where the time indicator will read 8
seconds for about 45 minutes while the MGM or other logo is loaded frame at
a time.

I also note that you still have the wrong bug report listed below and
subscribers to that bug report will only be further confused.

Jim,
As you mentioned your bug report has been merged to bug 373988. I also believe that your problem is not the same as problem described in this bug, so I suggest to remove link to this bug and continue your bug report. I think also that your problems are not concerning ubuntu-doc package but rather your movie player, so you should open new bug against it or use Answer Tracker (answers.launchpad.net).

pd, you cannot download packages from https://help.ubuntu.com/9.04/musicvideophotos/C/video-dvd.html page becuase of apt: prefix in the link. Only systems that using DEB package managers (such as Ubuntu, Debian and others) can be able to download and install such packages.
You clicked on this link using Mac computer that does not support deb packages. If you want to just download packages without installing them, you can use http://packages.ubuntu.com page where you can search package database for Ubuntu. Although you should be aware that in this way you couldn't be able to install some packages because of dependencies.

I'm converting this bug report to a question, becuase it is not a bug in Ubuntu documentation.

Feel free to continue to report any other bugs you may find.
