[i945] External display regression

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

I own a fujitsu u810 that has a problem using the external display. This problem has appeared when moving to Jaunty, since the external monitor was working ok in ubuntu 8.04.

The problem is solved in xf86-video-intel since 2009-03-05, when a patch was included in the master tree.

My question is:

when can we expect to see this patch included in a release of the ubuntu xserver-xorg-video-intel package?

Hi zzmiq2,

Please attach the output of `lspci -vvnn`, and attach your /var/log/Xorg.0.log (and maybe Xorg.0.log.old) file from after reproducing this issue. If you've made any customizations to your /etc/X11/xorg.conf please attach that as well.

I didn't attach any of those files, since all i wanted to kinow is by when the mentioned patch will be released in the video-intel package.

Anyway, I'm uploading required files.

Note that since I manually patched the video-intel driver with an old patch, not the one mentioned, I needed to include the line Option "SDVOBOutput" "VGA-1" to my xorg.conf, but those lines with the correct patch should not be necessary anymore

Thanks for pointing to the patch that you think fixes your problem. I see that is included in the 2.7.0 release, which we've packaged for Jaunty in the X Updates ppa:

I still don't understand why this driver update is not uploaded to normal
ubuntu updates repository, and I had to setup this new repository which I
never heard of before...

It is not uploaded because of regression risk. New major versions of drivers often include new features which can lead to new, sometimes serious bugs. Since 2.7.0 was released late in the Ubuntu development process there was insufficient time to perform enough validation testing, so we opted to stick with the presumably more stable 2.6.3 tree, and provide 2.7.0 in this updates ppa for users to opt-in with as needed.

x-updates is new, which is why you have not heard of it, but we plan to continue keeping it updated with new updates as they are available and proven sufficiently stable for general use.
