Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

Since upgrading to Jaunty Jackalope this problem has surfaced. Starting Root Terminal from icons or app menu results in an immediate launch but indefinite lock up. Eventually the terminal exits without being fully invoked. I have reported this through the help menu so details have been forwarded.

ProblemType: Bug
Architecture: i386
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.04
NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia
Package: firefox-3.0 3.0.10+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.9.04.1

 PATH=(custom, no user)
 LANG=en_GB.UTF-8
 SHELL=/bin/bash
SourcePackage: firefox-3.0
Uname: Linux 2.6.28-11-generic i686

This bug has nothing to do with Firefox. Please file a new bug report using "report a problem" in menu under Applications>System Tools>Report a problem. for next time you file a non Firefox bug. I will try to find correct package if i cant i will use Ubuntu as package. I can't find a good package to file it under.

affects: firefox-3.0 (Ubuntu) → ubuntu

I do not think that my bug submission is a duplicate of bug 328575.
Gnome-terminal works fine, ONLY root terminal fails (gksu
/usr/bin/x-terminal-emulator fails to execute). Hence, GConf may be error-free
in this case.

It's definately the same bug. The root terminal launcher runs "gksu
x-terminal-emulator". x-terminal-emulator is just a symlink to
gnome-terminal on the default system.

Why not? Your issue is identical. There is an issue with gnome-terminal where it will not work for anybody when launched with gksu. That means that the root terminal menu option (which basically runs "gksu gnome-terminal") does not run for anybody in here.

Your bug report is that the root terminal doesn't work - it's exactly the same!

So, please explain why you think your bug is different...

Chris, I understood that for other people BOTH the regular terminal AND root
terminal fail (i.e., with or w/o gksu execution).
However, if this is NOT the case, then my bug is indeed identical to 328575.

For me, as a reminder, the same: Regular terminal works fine, only root terminal
when started from ANYWHERE fails.
