Bug Description

Having downloaded the iso for 9.04, the cd boots but will not run. The "Loading, please wait" comes up, but it goes no further. I have waited for over 1 hour but no progress. This message comes up whether I chose install or run from disk, or check disk.

This bug has now been traced to a hardware problem and is resolved by changing the faulty hardware.

Would you mind selecting the recovery mode option from the GRUB menu? To do this, press ESC when grub loads, then use the arrow keys to select the recovery option. Please take a photograph of the screen, showing the last messages displayed before the boot stops.

Also, could you try pressing and holding any key to see if the boot progresses? If it does, then this might be a duplicate of another bug.

Hi Chris

I'm really sorry if I've been wasting your time, turned out that
removing the nvidia graphics card, a gs7300, resolved the problem, and
this is the chief suspect as I have been having trouble with it.

( it gives these irq messages all the time

Mar 16 20:28:46 pc-2 kernel: [ 290.511377] unexpected IRQ trap at vector 9b
Mar 16 20:28:47 pc-2 kernel: [ 291.515515] irq 155, desc: c04a0b00,
depth: 1, count: 0, unhandled: 0
Mar 16 20:28:47 pc-2 kernel: [ 291.515523] ->handle_irq(): c0177250,
handle_bad_irq+0x0/0x2a0
Mar 16 20:28:47 pc-2 kernel: [ 291.515535] ->chip(): c0477180,
no_irq_chip+0x0/0x40
Mar 16 20:28:47 pc-2 kernel: [ 291.515541] ->action(): 00000000
Mar 16 20:28:47 pc-2 kernel: [ 291.515543] IRQ_DISABLED set

but it runs fine with ubuntu on the other computer I mentioned on the
bug report.
)

As requested I ran it in recovery mode and took a shot of the screen
which is attached.

Also holding down a key made no difference either when booting from the
hard drive or from the cd.

Best regards

Andrew

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at all reported bugs in a timely manner.
There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a lot if you could test the current Ubuntu development version (10.10). If you can test it, and it is still an issue, we would appreciate if you could upload updated logs by running apport-collect <bug #>, and any other logs that are relevant for this particular issue.

Hi Teej

I don't have time to look at this at the moment, things are very
intense. (interactivedestiny.com)
As soon as I install a new version of ubuntu, which is being delayed
solely for lack of time - I am so longing for a new install, swapping
the version of java without fully realising what I was doing has left me
with a number of problems I can't wait to get away from - I will test
the bug again and let you know.

Best regards

Andrew
