Bug Description

I used the method of ripping CDs found on the KDE website (http://docs.kde.org/stable/en/kdebase-runtime/userguide/audio-cd.html) in Kubuntu 9.04 Jaunty. I'm using the LAME 3.98-0.0 MP3 encoder and the ripping goes fine. I then open the MP3 in amarok and the only thing that plays is just static. The song should play in amarok but instead it is an incredibly loud static sound. I've tried multiple CD's with the same result. I've done this process in KDE 3.5.10 and it works just fine, but in KDE 4.2 it won't work.

I then ripped it in Ogg Vorbis format and it plays just fine, but I need it MP3 for my iPod. I tried removing and then reinstalling LAME but that was to no avail.

I've determined its LAME because I ripped audio in K3B and ran into the same problem.

I have the same problem, LAME is fine though, as I can get perfect MP3s using the lame command on WAV files!

Sounds like the wrong parameters or file are being passed to Lame!

I agree with the previous person, this is definitely not lame because I can also create MP3 files using lame from a command line. It must be a KDE issue. Also, this has only started since 9.04.

I have the same problems on Kubuntu Jaunty (amd64).
I found this old Debian bug, possibly related: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=388382
There, the hardcoded lame switch '-x' causes breakage. Maybe what ails us is similar?

This is not a duplicate of 267399. That bug is about a failed execution of lame. In this bug, lame "succeeds" but produces a file full of static.
