Bug Description

Hi,
Each time I try to log into my brand new ubuntu, installed from a Software Updater link in 8.10, it freezes. The mouse moves properly, but the screen just freezes. It reminds me of Vista :(

I already posted on the forums, didn't get much of an answer
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1134920
Basically, other people had the same kind of problem, and Failsafe mode worked for a while, and the same problem happened. I tried "sudo apt-get autoclean" and "sudo dpkg --configure -a" which someone recommended.

Can anyone help me solve this? I'm using Vista at the moment which is on dual boot

I'm using Ubuntu Jaunty 64-bit (or at least Intrepid was 64-bit) on a Samsung R60 Plus laptop, with 2 GB RAM, minus 256 MB which is taken by the ATI 1250 Graphics card. It was using FGLRX until the Jaunty installer uninstalled it.

The freeze happens while my startup programs are loading.

Hi Natovr,

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/lucid.

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 366768

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Jeremy,
No, I don't have this issue any more - I decided to install Ubuntu cleanly -
and not from the Updater link. Since then Ubuntu 9.10 was also released, so
I installed that.

Thank you anyway :)
