vlc dose not show a controller in full screen mode.

The controller dose not show up when playing any video in full screen mode in vlc, it should appear when moving the mouse cursor, i thought compiz is the problem so i turned it off but it didn't solve the problem, it occured in two installations of ubuntu 9.04 RC in my desktop and laptop.
vlc version is 0.9.9a Grishenko.

The issue is solved in vlc version 1.0.0 Goldeneye, i installed it and its working will.

Hi Community,

It's correct that the bug is fixed in karmic, but what is with the people using jaunty - the actual latest stable release?
It's a really annoying bug and there is no fix commited for jaunty.
The user experience isn't very well in this issue, the problem is discussed on forums and most people become the advise to install vlc from ppa. Is this the way we want it to be? A bug exists and people should install an update manually?

I agree with you Kev, the same happens with other applications all the time, some times you can't find a deb package to install so you have to wait for the next ubuntu release for the issue to be solved ,for new users its more difficult , they might don't know what ppa is or where to find a deb package or how to build from source.
Is it possible to release the update officially for recent supported ubuntu versions ?

Ubuntu has a very strict policy about updating packages in stable
releases. So far nobody has volunteered to start it. See

process.

TBH, I don't think this bug in analysed enough to start that
procedure. For new upstream versions we have the backport procedure,
which seems more fit to me. backport candidates for testing can be found
in the motumedia PPA.
