Bug Description

tried to upgrade 8.10 to 9.04, beta release- failed to install and completely corrupted system. I had to reformat HDD.
(I have dual boot with XP PRO)

Today again tried to install fresh 9.04 release candidate.
The ubuntu screen comes up and activity goes on for quite some time. after which, screen becomes blank, with a cursor blinking on the left -top side of the monitor. nothing happens after that, and there is no indication of activity in the HDD. same results after multiple tries

Therefore, could not upgrade 8.10 to 9.04 beta
now cannot fresh install 9.04 release candidate

affects: ubuntu → ubiquity (Ubuntu)

Where does the screen go blank? When you're booting the live CD, or after you've installed and are booting the system for the first time?

If you're able to get into the installer, please run it in debug mode (`ubiquity -d` from a terminal) and attach /var/log/syslog, /var/log/partman, and /var/log/installer/debug when it crashes, following the instructions in http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingUbiquity/AttachingLogs .

Thanks!

Hello
The screen goes blank when I am booting the live CD to install the system in the first instance, so it never goes forward and sort of hangs. so there is nothing I can do. there is no way i can access terminal. (I tried to see in "demo and install" and also tried "install Ubuntu" right from start, but stops at exactly same position.

Best

If you disable the boot splash screen, does it proceed any further? You can do this by selecting your language at the CD boot menu, then pressing F6, and finally escape to clear the menu that appears. Remove the "quiet splash" text before the -- mark and press enter.

Thanks, and sorry about the late reply.
