Bug Description
testing kubuntu alpha jaunty.
samba was working fine for some time till updstes last weekend.
since than, samba wont start.
sudo /etc/init.d/samba restart >>looks ok but >> ps -e |grep smbd >>shows nothing.
nmbd not working either.

Looks like it can't create the PID file in /var/run/samba.
Could you give me the output of the following command:
ls -ld /var/run/samba
