Bug Description

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

There are several redrawing issues when using compiz on my nvidia card. At first everything draws correctly. As I use OO the draw updating becomes more intermittent until it becomes to much hassle and I must restart the program.

This problem doesn't seem to be limited to OO. The terminal does it from time to time while using vim.

ProblemType: Bug
Architecture: amd64
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.04
NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia
Package: openoffice.org-common 1:3.0.1-9ubuntu3 [modified: usr/lib/openoffice/basis3.0/share/config/javasettingsunopkginstall.xml]

 LANG=en_US.UTF-8
 SHELL=/bin/bash
SourcePackage: openoffice.org

180.44
I was using 173.xx and saw the same issue while running Ibex.

There are similar drawing issues that appear in the terminal while using VIM
as well. This leads me to believe its not an issue with OpenOffice
directly.

Yea, its almost certainly a bug in the nvidia video driver, they have had other similar issues in the past.

Hi orbital-sfear,

Thanks for including the attached files. Could you also include your /var/log/Xorg.0.log (or Xorg.0.log.old) from after reproducing the issue?

Bruce,

I've noticed a similar drawing issue while using the following programs:
Xilinx ISE

Gnome Terminal

If you want, I could make a short video showing the issue?

I've posted a new version of the -nvidia driver to our xorg-edgers PPA,
would you mind testing it either on Jaunty or Karmic and see if it
resolves this bug?

We're closing this bug since it is has been some time with no response from the original reporter. However, if the issue still exists please feel free to reopen with the requested information. Also, if you could, please test against the latest development version of Ubuntu, since this confirms the bug is one we may be able to pass upstream for help.

I am testing this in karmic alpha plus updates and do not have the artifact rendering problem. I'm using the stock karmic nvidia 185.18.36-0ubuntu5 and not the one from your ppa. Is the version in your ppa for jaunty or karmic? If there's a jaunty version, I'd be willing to try it on jaunty.

For now, I found the compiz settings > utility > workaround plugin > check "X and GLx" which fixes it in jaunty.

I can confirm that this is no longer an issue for me in Karmic - I don't even have to use the workaround mentioned above.
