Bug Description

I tried to set the encoding to Arabic Windows-1256 via the mouse menu inside Terminator, it won't be save cause every time I restart Terminator I found that it's still on UTF-8

When I changed the encoding option to Windows-1256 it accepted it but it do not render the fonts correctly .

I enclosed a screen shot for Terminator & mlTERM, Both set up to use the Arabic Font of my Choice "Thabit"

This almost looks to me like it's a Left-to-Right vs Right-to-Left issue. Does it work correctly in GNOME Terminal?

Nope it do not, in gnome-terminal it's the same problem....letters are shown separate and reversed ...

If it happens there too then it's almost certainly a bug in the underlying terminal library that both Terminator and GNOME Terminal use, which is called VTE.
I slightly suspct that might not even be a bug - making a RtL terminal would be pretty hard I suspect.

I am linking this bug to the upstream VTE bug about RtL support.
