Bug Description

Binary package hint: empathy

When first installed, it connected one time properly by importing my gtalk account from pidgin and i could even make a video call to a friend, of which audio part worked. But after reboot, I am unable to connect to gtalk and all it's showing is "authentication failed". Even when I edit the password field for the account in the "Accounts" pane, and click "ok", it's again back to the same thing... some seven lettered password.. dun know what's that.... and I am then unable to connect.

I am using Ubuntu alpha 6 updated daily and empathy:
  Installed: 2.26.0.1-0ubuntu1
  Candidate: 2.26.0.1-0ubuntu1
  Version table:
 *** 2.26.0.1-0ubuntu1 0
        500 http://in.archive.ubuntu.com jaunty/universe Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

Hello prabhupritam,

Could you try again with latest Jaunty and empathy (released today, 2.26.1-1ubuntu1) ?

Have a nice day.

thank u sir, I got it working. The problem, as i later found, was with
ubuntu not being able to unlock the default keyring automatically once the
auto-login is enabled. once I log out and log in again, "gnome do" would
request my password and will get the default keyring unlocked. Is there a
solution to it? I mean once I log in automatically or manually, my keyring
would be unlocked automatically for trusted applications?

thanking you,
prabhu pritam

I posted a few hours ago a new bug for empathy, but I really suspect this is the same as this one : I remember I could connect the first time, now I can't.

Usually in this case, your passwords for IM accounts and other things like that are in the "login" keyring which automatically unlocks at session startup. Is this the case for you ?

(go in Applications > Accessories > Passwords and Keys (or something like that) and in the password tab, you should see 2 keyrings : login and default. your passwords for empathy should be into login in order to be automatically usable without password when your session is open.

Have a nice day.

I still have this error, (it's not invalid i guess). I use Kubuntu and I think that empathy is too attached to the gnome keyring, that's why anytime i try to save the password, empathy never changes it and I think he uses "keyring" as a default password, that's why gtalk server always tells me "Bad autentication".

Is there a way that empathy ask for the default keyring of the system, in this case, kde's keyring?
Thks

I fixed the problem finally. I had to call the "seahorse" program (which is the keyring manager in gnome) so I had to delete the "login" password in the keyring. Then I went to empathy, saved my gtalk password and the keyring asked me to put new password for the keyring.

Anyway, I'm still thinking that Empathy should allow not store the password using any keyring. Or at least call the default keyring, like kwallet for kubuntu.
Thks.
