Bug Description

Binary package hint: acroread

Hello,

I noticed that the acroread package on Canonical's partner repository isn't split between several small binary packages
as was done at Medibuntu. I think it would be useful to have it split between several packages, such that users would be able to install only the functionalities that they need.

The plugin is very annoying, and people generally don't want to use it if avoidable. Disabling it in firefox/$BROWSER doesn't always work, so splitting it up is needed.

Hi Timo,

I tend to agree, but unfortunately, Adobe wishes for us to keep it in one package to match their own DEB releases.

Brian,

thank you for your updates on these issues. I know you are not the one
to make the decisions on this one. For me, I guess both bug 359638 as
well as bug 378321 are just another reminder not to install the sucky
Adobe-sponsored Canonical packages but recompile the ones from
debian-multimedia.org instead. They are MUCH better (somehow
incredible, isn't it?). My main reason to leave the Adobe packages
behind was their refusal to properly support the FF plugin.

Regards

Rolf
